...more crap

Post  axidswitch on Thu Aug 25, 2011 10:19 pm

So I got everything in a few days ago, put it all together and was excited about my shiny new setup...until I heard the clicking in my hard drive...

I guess I didn't hear it before, otherwise I would have gotten a new hard drive as well, but apparently the loose power cable to the hard drive did more damage than I thought Neutral New progress report...replaced MoBo, PSu and got a new case for shits and giggles; went to a local PC parts store and spent around $25 for extension cables and fan wire adapters; now awaiting the arrival of my HD. Altogether, about $200 spent. Not too bad, considerring the alternative (new pc) but hopefully I will get these issues resolved...forums are lacking, so I can't get too much insight into what's been going on server-side, but hopefully not too much has changed, lol.

I've also had some problems with my PC. The first problem was my Harddrive(it died then I got it replaced with a 2TB harddrive), then my graphics card(Geforce 9800 GX2) started screwing up, I would get this checkerboard effect on my screen then my computer would crash. I could get about 30 seconds of playtime on WoW and I was complaining in the guild chat about it before the checkerboard and crash effect. The only way I could get it to work again was to heat it up with ATITool, or take it out and heat it up with a heat gun from my dad's workshop. The card has 2 GPU's in it and only 1 was working, but barely. When you open up "Device Manager" and click on "Display Adapters" there should be 2 NVIDIA Geforce 9800 GX2s there, but only 1 would show up. Now I have this Geforce GTX 560 Ti and it has been working for about a month then after I lightning storm my power went out while the computer was running. Now every time I open up a game(even old games like Age of Empires or Fallout 1&2), my computer restarts for no reason. When I check 'Event Viewer' I see this Critical Error in System Events "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." I figure that the power supply is screwed and isn't giving enough juice to this new graphics card or something, I don't know what else could be causing my PC to restart while playing games. So I have to play WoW on my brother's computer when he isn't home and his keyboard and mouse really suck.
